Materials: multicolored and clear glass, 5/16”, 1/4”, 1/8”, and 3/8” flat lead, steel frame, new custom-made wood frame
Designed in the 1970s, this piece is comprised of two stained glass panels, each housed in its own steel frame. Web cracks in the glass and heavy oxidation of the frame were meticulously addressed. Because the bars hadn’t been connected to the border frame and the solder joints had deteriorated, both panels had contorted and were no longer in plane. After consultation with the client, Nzilani’s in-house carpenter designed a new framework to mimic the contours of the original art glass. This adjusted design joins the two panels as one unit within the framework.
